The rock with a tap?

Who on earth would have expected this? – it is like a Harry Potter film. How did flowing

water suddenly appear out of a dry rock. Not just a little dribble but enough for a whole nation to drink, bathe, cook with. In other words a gushing stream.

Ex 17 :6 I will stand before you on the rock at Mount Sinai.Strike the rock, and water will come gushing out. Then the people will be able to drink.” So Moses struck the rock as he was told, and water gushed out as the elders looked on.

1 Corinthians 10:4 and all of them drank the same spiritual water. For they drank from the spiritual rock that traveled with them, and that rock was Christ.

On this adventure we are going to see some strange sights. Sights that will make our eyes pop out of our heads. Things that will make no sense our your brain but every sense to our hearts.

We know there is one that travels with us. He is a rock. He is Christ. This rock not only has the normal characteristics of a rock being solid and dependable, a sure foundation but also has heavenly surprises   Even in the hardest, driest place this rock travels with us so we know we are safe and then the rock overflows with water to refresh our thirsty souls.

Today: In the heat of today, in the hard parts of this week turn to the rock and know you are secure. Then drink deeply refreshing waters that flow out of Christ

12 Fresh Springs

Yesterday I sat in the hall as the music group were enjoying the presence of God. They were singing Marcus’ great new song about the Fathers’ love. I found myself sobbing with the love on the Father on my life and being refreshed in God’s presence. Healing and refreshing come hand in hand.

What did the Israelites do after the Oasis of bitterness was healed?

Exodus  15:27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there near the water.

Forgiveness and repentance bring spiritual renewal and a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit. It unblocks rubbish from the bubbling springs within our hearts (John 4:14) and bursts forth like a refreshing cool drink on a hot day.  We can overflow with the presence and love of God.

Let your heart camp near the waters.

As we travel together let our hearts always be resting by the waters. One of the best things a friend of my taught me in the crazy days of four kids ages five and under was to find the quiet place. This doesn’t always mean taking yourself out of the situation – say for a walk (although I do try to do this everyday to stay sane!!) – but  even in the midst of chaos to find the quiet waters in your spirit to sit and drink at. We can rest and commune with God whilst driving the car, gardening or anything else happening around us.  Even in the excitement of the adventure may we know the deep, calm waters of God.

Psalm 23:2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

Learn to drink from the twelve springs.

How do I drink his presence in?

First I find the invitation is for the thirsty.

Isaiah 55:1 [ Invitation to the Thirsty ] “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters

I am often too familiar. Too comfortable. I want to learn to become thirsty again. Really thirsty. Parched. Desperate for his presence and longing to be changed.

Next I see there are 12 springs – not just one.  I can become too familiar with the same old way of drinking – sitting at that one familiar spring. There is more than one way to drink and I like to use my imagination and wait on the Holy Spirit in different ways. Here are some ideas that I use:

  • Let God rain down  – on my hands, feet, head  (I like to tip my head back with my mouth open to catch the drops)
  • Drink God like a refreshing drink into the depths of my parched soul
  • Lying down and sinking into the depths of the river
  • Breathing in the breath of God as he breathes out
  • Fill up the sails of my heart with the wind of the Spirit
  • Lie like a sponge soaking Him up into every pore of my body
  • I Imagine my heart is a straw pulling his presence in
  • I let the waves of the Spirit overwhelm me and crash over me again and again
  • I lift my arms and let the rivers run down them into my heart
  • Sitting on his knee and letting him hold me and love me

There are more I am sure – I am open to suggestions. Please feel free to add some.

Today: Ask yourself how thirsty and desperate are you for God? Make some time to drink from the 12 springs today.
